Ralph, I know I should invest, but honestly, I'm scared.
Speaker AHow do I build confidence without making a huge mistake?
Speaker AWhat a great question.
Speaker AAnd I thought to answer this question, let's look at some statistics.
Speaker AAnd Abby pulled these together for us today.
Speaker AAnd these are really eye opening to me.
Speaker A42% of US adults say their biggest reason for not investing is fear.
Speaker ABut what does that fear look like?
Speaker AIt's the fear losing money.
Speaker AAnd that fear keeps them stuck on the sidelines instead of growing their money.
Speaker AInteresting statistic, isn't it?
Speaker AHere's another one.
Speaker A40% of Americans don't invest in the stock market often because they don't feel confident or they don't know where to start.
Speaker AHey, I see a trend, fear confidence and don't know where to start.
Speaker AAnd listen to this one.
Speaker AAmong younger adults, 58% say investing feels intimidating or overwhelming.
Speaker AAnd here's the interesting part.
Speaker AEven though they know it's important for their future, clearly a disconnect there.
Speaker AAnd more than half of the Americans, 50% said they lack confidence in making investments.
Speaker AThey want guidance, which shows how common these fears really are.
Speaker ASee, here's the thing.
Speaker AI'm going to start off with today's show with fear is normal.
Speaker ABut I need you to hear this.
Speaker AFear won't grow your money and you want confidence.
Speaker AConfidence comes from taking small steps.
Speaker AHere's the truth.
Speaker AFear keeps many people out of investing confidence.
Speaker AA lot of people think that's arrogance, but that's not what we're going to talk about today.
Speaker AConfidence is faith, confidence is knowledge, and confidence is steady practice.
Speaker ASo let's have a chat about finding that confidence on today's show.
Speaker BThis is Financially Confident Christian, your daily dose of gospel, grounded insight and faith driven tips to help you break the cycle of financial shame with confidence.
Speaker AHello there.
Speaker AWelcome to Financially Confident Christian.
Speaker AI'm Ralph.
Speaker ALet me ask you a question as we get started today.
Speaker AHas fear ever stopped you from investing?
Speaker AIf it has, let me tell you right now, you're not alone in that.
Speaker ABut a good news about this is fear doesn't have to win.
Speaker AWith God's wisdom and some small steps.
Speaker AAnd we'll talk about some small steps today you can go from doubt to confidence.
Speaker AYou might be saying, okay, Ralph, well tell me why you think you can make this work.
Speaker AThe truth is I've helped thousands of clients move from confusion and fear and listen, a lot of people have confusion and fear, especially when you're younger.
Speaker AYou don't know what you're getting into.
Speaker ABut I've helped people Move confidently into financial habits that work for them.
Speaker AAnd listen, I'm not just telling other people how to do it.
Speaker AI've done this myself.
Speaker AI've learned step by step that you can't do this overnight.
Speaker AWhich leads me to a story.
Speaker AI remember meeting with someone and this person was very fear adverse.
Speaker AThey were really scared.
Speaker AThey didn't understand the market and they just left their money sitting in a savings account.
Speaker AAnd interest rates had gotten really low.
Speaker AAnd it was just out of fear.
Speaker AThey didn't know what to do.
Speaker AThey were earning almost no interest on their savings account.
Speaker AThey came down, we sat down, we talked about things, and they took a small, steady step into investing.
Speaker ANow, it wasn't all their money at once.
Speaker AI wouldn't have invested, I wouldn't have advised them to do that.
Speaker AThey began with just a small amount.
Speaker AAnd as they learned more about the markets, as they learned more about investing, they had a peace that came upon them instead of panic.
Speaker AAnd I love what Benjamin Franklin said, one of the founders of the United States.
Speaker AThis is perfect.
Speaker AHe says an investment in knowledge pays the best interest.
Speaker ASee, we always think about investments, how much they're going to pay in interest.
Speaker ABut what is Ben Franklin telling us?
Speaker AAn investment in knowledge pays the best interest.
Speaker ASo, friend, let's talk about fear and confidence.
Speaker AThis is what we really need to talk about on today's show.
Speaker AIf you're like most people, fear shows up when you don't understand something or you don't understand what's in front of you.
Speaker AIt's kind of like walking into a dark room.
Speaker AYou walk into that dark room and our minds fill in the blanks.
Speaker AWe're assuming there's something bad in there.
Speaker AWe always assume the worst case scenario.
Speaker AThat's what fear does to us.
Speaker AFear grabs a hold of us what we don't know.
Speaker ABut here's the truth.
Speaker AI've said this on the show many times.
Speaker AFear thrives in the unknown.
Speaker ASee, when you don't know what to expect, that's fearful.
Speaker ABut let me tell you the other side of that.
Speaker AClarity kills fear.
Speaker ASo if you want to get rid of fear, you got to move to clarity.
Speaker AWhen you stop guessing and you start learning, guess what happens.
Speaker AFear loses its grip.
Speaker AHere's another thing we talked about in the beginning of the show.
Speaker AUncertainty.
Speaker AA lot of people think uncertainty.
Speaker AWell, that means I'm failing, Ralph.
Speaker ANo, it's not failure.
Speaker AIt's an invitation.
Speaker AIt's really an invitation to grow in knowledge and to grow in trust.
Speaker AAnd that growth leads to confidence.
Speaker ANow I'm going to tell you right now, haven't experienced this for 30 years.
Speaker AConfidence doesn't come all at once.
Speaker AIt's kind of like a muscle.
Speaker AI go to the gym every morning and I work out my muscles.
Speaker AI don't get strong in one big workout, but day in and day out, that steady training, that's what gives me confidence.
Speaker AThat's what gives me strength.
Speaker AAnd I have those small wins.
Speaker AI have that day where I was in the gym this morning, and, man, things are really going well.
Speaker AAnd every little step builds that strength.
Speaker AAnd every little, small victory stacks into confidence.
Speaker AI look at it every week, I put a little bit more weight on the things building that confidence.
Speaker ASo don't wait until you feel ready.
Speaker ABecause the truth is, if you wait to feel ready, you're never going to get there.
Speaker AI'm going to encourage you today, take that small step in front of you.
Speaker AThat's how confidence is born.
Speaker AThat's the way I started in the gym.
Speaker AWhen I went down to the gym the first day in my basement, I wasn't sure what I'd be able to do, but I was able to start just small day in and day out.
Speaker AAnd see, that's where faith comes in.
Speaker AAnd that's why I do this show.
Speaker AIt's all about faith.
Speaker ASee, faith shifts our fear into trust.
Speaker AIt reminds us that God is in control.
Speaker AHey, when you fear what's in the dark, just remember, even walking into that dark room, you're not going in there alone.
Speaker AGod is with you always.
Speaker ANow, I'm going to tell you this because a lot of people say, well, Ralph, if you have faith, you're not going to have any questions.
Speaker AI disagree with that.
Speaker AFaith doesn't erase every question, but it does reframe it.
Speaker ANow, let's get to that big question.
Speaker AWhat if I fail?
Speaker ABut what if God uses this for good?
Speaker ASee, because here's the truth.
Speaker AGod's track record is flawless.
Speaker AThink about that for a second.
Speaker AHe's been faithful before.
Speaker AHe's been faithful in my life.
Speaker ALet me ask you, has he been faithful in yours?
Speaker AWell, guess what?
Speaker AHe's going to be faithful again.
Speaker AAnd fear makes us focus on our limits.
Speaker ABut faith points us back to God's power.
Speaker AAnd here's the last thing.
Speaker AIt's never about being perfect.
Speaker AA lot of people think, well, if I'm going to go into investing, Ralph, I might lose.
Speaker AYes, you might.
Speaker AIt's not about being perfect.
Speaker AIt's about being consistent.
Speaker AIt's about being steady.
Speaker AAnd yes, it's about Being faithful.
Speaker AIt's that showing up again and again and again.
Speaker ABecause see, listen to this perfectionism myth.
Speaker AThat's what keeps you on the sidelines.
Speaker AThat's what keeps you in fear.
Speaker AYou fear that you're not going to be perfect.
Speaker ABut consistency is where transformation happens.
Speaker AAnd every little step, that day in and day out, step, even make those little investments, creates momentum.
Speaker AAnd that momentum allows God to multiply it.
Speaker AAnd remember this, God values faithfulness over flawlessness.
Speaker AAnd he works through that to get you steady obedience.
Speaker ASo don't let fear stop you.
Speaker ATake that step today.
Speaker ALearn what you can and trust God with the rest.
Speaker AAnd I want to give you some scripture today because his promise is clear.
Speaker ALook at the Book of Isaiah, chapter 41, verse 10.
Speaker AHe says this, do not fear, for I'm with you.
Speaker AI will strengthen you and help you.
Speaker AWell, friend, that's your confidence today.
Speaker AWhy about we pray together right now?
Speaker AFather, we come to you right now and we're fearful about things we don't understand.
Speaker AWe're afraid of the dark Lord.
Speaker AWe're afraid of what we don't know.
Speaker AAnd we just ask you right now to give us wisdom.
Speaker AReplace that fear with faith, Lord, and help us to strengthen our courage by taking those small steps.
Speaker AAnd right now we just ask for steady confidence.
Speaker AHelp us to not feel that need for perfection all the time.
Speaker AHelp us to be aware of your love for us and aware that you're there for us always.
Speaker AAnd we ask this in confidence in the name of Jesus.
Speaker AAmen.
Speaker AAll right, well, let's get to our one action item for today.
Speaker AHere's what I want you to do.
Speaker AWe're going to break that feeling of fear and we're going to move into a small step of confidence.
Speaker AI want you to just take one investing step that you've been afraid of.
Speaker AThink of that thing that you've been afraid of.
Speaker AMaybe it's opening that investment account.
Speaker AMaybe it's increasing that contribution that you're putting in your retirement account or into your 401k and ask this question.
Speaker AThat small step can build big confidence.
Speaker ASo think about that.
Speaker ATake that one small step today.
Speaker AAnd remember, even the smallest step of obedience can open up the doors to God's blessings.
Speaker AAnd I want to encourage you today, go out there today and be a financially confident Christian.
Speaker AStay financially savvy.
Speaker AGod bless you.
Speaker AAnd I'll see you tomorrow on the show.
