Yeah, those little lies that tempest to keep up with everyone else's highlight reel. So if you miss it, I'm going to encourage you to go check it out.You can find our whole list of episodes@financially confidentchristian.com. now, today, we're going to turn inward a lot. We're going to be looking at, hey, this one might talk, this one might hurt a little bit.As I was planning the show, I'm thinking, man, I, I'm guilty of a lot of these things. But we're going to turn inward today. We're going to look at how our digital habits might be silently draining not just our attention.Yeah, we got to admit, they definitely drain our attention, but they might be secretly draining our wallets too. So let's get right into it. Let's be honest with ourselves. We got to start off with some honesty today. Some, some Ralph honesty today.Ask yourself this question. How many times have you picked up your phone? Hey, just for a second. Hey, I'm just going to pick it up for a second. It's not going to be a big deal. And then you think, wait a minute, I just lost 45 minutes scrolling through those reels, those videos, or hey, maybe it's those Amazon deals. Hey, these are essentials. Amazon essentials. I can't afford to miss these. And when we're really honest with ourselves, that harmless scroll, what does it lead to? It leads to impulse buys. Hey, we gotta have these things. We, we saw it on Facebook, we saw it on Instagram Hey, Amazon said it was a must have.It was an essential. A lot of times that harmless scroll also leads to mental overload. We're bombarded by from all directions with news and ideas and a lot of times just garbage. We're just filling our minds with mental overload and. And garbage. And if we're really not careful, this is the sinister part. Can lead to disconnection from your financial goals. See, here's the thing I need you to understand. Right from the beginning, social media is filled with targeted ads. That's what it's all about. It's filled with comparison traps. And hey, we're being totally brutally honest. Social media is filled with shopping triggers. That's what it's designed to do.A lot of people don't understand. Oh, social media is for sharing. No, it's not. Social media is to trigger you. It's to make you compare yourself to others and trigger shopping. But today on the show, I want to show you how you can cut the cord both financially and spiritually. Because here's the big spiritual takeaway. Today you got to guard your heart. See, the digital world is designed for consumption. And I need you to believe that right now. Every app, every ad, every ping, all of those things are designed to grab your attention. And here is the brutal truth. When your attention is gone, guess what usually follows right behind that? I'm guilty of this myself. Your money just follows along. And see, the idea of a digital detox isn't just about focus.Hey, that would be great to refocus on what matters the most. But a digital detox is also about protecting your heart and your finances from that constant temptation. Hey, it's not just money's temptation.Sometimes it's that comparison temptation. It's that complaining temptation. I did a whole show about that on my new show, Truth Unveiled with Ralph. I encourage you to check it out.I'll put a link to it in the show notes. But let's get into God's word right now and really work to how we can guard our hearts. The main Bible verse here today is Proverbs, chapter 4, verse 23. And hey, this cuts right to it. Above all else. Hey, when the Bible says, above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.Everything you do not. Some of the things you do not. A couple of things you do. Everything you do flows from it.See, what you allow into your eyes, what you allow into your ears, and what you allow into your mind, it directly shapes your desires. It directly shapes your habits. And listen, ultimately this is the honest to goodness truth. Ultimately, it shapes your spending.Let's look at another Bible verse. This is from the book of Ephesians, chapter 5, verses 15 and 16. Again, a big warning. Be very careful then how you live. Not as unwise, but as wise.Making the most of every opportunity because the days are evil. See, every moment on our screens is a moment that we could redeem.Listen, I'm not sitting here today saying don't ever use your phone, don't ever spend any screen time. But this is the thing you need to understand. You're trading that time for something else. You could redeem that for rest, you could redeem that for purpose. You could redeem that for family time, for prayer time, or hey, maybe just some planning time.I want to say this again because it's so crucial that you hear me today. Every moment on our screens is a moment that we could redeem for something more purposeful for our lives. Let's look at one more Bible verse today. And this is Timothy, chapter 6, verse 6. It says, but godliness with contentment is great gain. So I'm going to unleash something on you right now because I truly believe this to my core. And this is something I battle with every day. You want to know about the inside of Ralph? Ralph loves technology. But the more you unplug, the more you find peace in what you already have.I started off by saying these social media is intending to make you trigger spending. It's intended to make you comparison against others. So the more that you unplug, the more peace you're going to have in what you already have. And here's the best part, and the less likely you are to chase things you don't need. So let's talk right now about how to break free from that scroll trap. This is your one action step for today.Just like yesterday's show, you got to identify your triggers. So today I want you to identify those digital triggers. Ask yourself what apps cause you to spend money that you didn't plan for.Hey, maybe this is the time to take Amazon off your phone. Yeah, I told you I was going to get a little bit crazy today, but this is the truth. Are you constantly sitting in that death scroll of Instagram?Maybe it's Pinterest for you. Not a big user of Pinterest. We do post some content over there, but for maybe for you it's Pinterest. And as I understand printers and I'm not an expert, Pinterest, to me it's like designed for that Comparison trap. So that's the first thing. Identify your digital triggers and then I'm going to encourage you to put another pause in place.Yes, Ralph is going to mention another pause. And this is the 24 to 48 hour. Ready for this one? The no scroll rule. I just want you to avoid one app for one or two days. Just completely cut it out.Hey, maybe for you it's that Amazon app. I'm not even going to go shopping. Listen, I find myself doing this all the time. I'll be doing something the dirty. I wonder if Amazon's got that. What do I do? I get my phone out, grab the phone, push Amazon button, and hey, I'm shopping. I'm, I'm having a great time. But just I'm going to encourage you to do that maybe just one or two days and observe what changes in your mood. Observe what changes in your time you're spending more time with other stuff. And hey, here's the big piece. Observe what changes in your spending. And then the third and final thing I'm going to encourage you to do is schedule offline time. I want you to block 30 or 60 minutes today for something peaceful and something free. And I'm encouraged to do this every single day because listen, I'm guilty of this as well. It's time for us to start to detox from some of this digital connection in our world. Do something peaceful and free. Hey, maybe go for a walk.Go out and take a walk. Maybe spend some time reading scripture. And I didn't say listen to scripture, I said reading scripture.Maybe this is a good time to start doing some journaling. Hey, journaling is great for you. Talk about your feelings, write them down on paper, get that stuff out of you. This is also a great time to make that family connection or maybe to spend the time in prayer. And here's the other thing I'm going to encourage you to do. And this is something you really need to focus on doing.Turn off non essential notifications. It's another thing. The digital world wants you to always be connected to those notifications. Turn them off.No more buzzes and digs that tempt you to scroll or shop. Just shut them off. You don't need them. And see, here's what happens when you do that digital detox. This is the benefits of this. You stop that passive consumption. You stop it in its tracks. You close those financial leaks, you create mental and spiritual space and you return to a place of intentional spending and contentment. Just think about one small change and just think about the big ripple that I can make in your life. So I'm going to encourage you today.Start to think about digital detox. Let's pray together. Father God, we just thank you for the gifts of technology and we thank you for the gift of connection, Lord. But we have to confess that we often let digital distractions control our time, control our money. And Lord, sometimes they control our lives. Lord. Fill our lives with joy, Lord. Fill our lives of peace and purpose that come only from you.And we ask this in confidence. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. Listen, a digital detox isn't just about your mind. It's so much bigger than that. It's a financial tool. And in the end, it's truly a spiritual discipline. So I want to encourage you again, unplug to reclaim your peace. Unplug to protect your wallet. Now, next time we're going to be talking about affordable summer self care. We're going to talk about how to rest, how to recharge, and how to thrive without overspending. So I encourage you to check out tomorrow's show. And while I'm talking about that, I'm also encourage you to share the show. Maybe you know somebody else who could use that digital detox. Hey, just point them right to our website. That's financially confidentchristian.com hey, maybe share today's show with them. Just send them a link to it and say, hey, Ralph was talking about this digital detox. I'm going to embrace this. Maybe you should too.And as I close today, I want to remind you, you can do this. I have confidence in you, have confidence in yourself, Stay financially savvy, God bless you and you have a great day today.
