You ever feel like no matter how much you make, it just disappears?
Speaker AAlmost like there's a hole in your wallet?
Speaker AThat's what I want to talk about today.
Speaker AAnd I want to get right into the scripture.
Speaker AI found this Bible verse from the book of Haggai.
Speaker AIt's chapter one, verse six.
Speaker AAnd I just want to read this to you because, man, it nails something.
Speaker AAnd I deal with also about every day in my practice.
Speaker AAnd this is what it says again.
Speaker AThis is the book of Haggai, chapter one, verse six.
Speaker AIt says this.
Speaker AYou earn wages only to put them in a purse with holes in it.
Speaker AWell, think about that for a second.
Speaker APeople are working hard.
Speaker AYou might be listening to this right now.
Speaker AMaybe you're sitting there on your way to work, you're listening to this.
Speaker AOr maybe you're watching this on YouTube.
Speaker AYou're like, Ralph, that's me.
Speaker AI work really hard.
Speaker AIt feels like no matter what I do, I just can't get ahead.
Speaker AAnd I hear this, my practice, almost every day.
Speaker APeople I work with to try to help them improve their financial situation.
Speaker AIt's always the same thing, Ralph.
Speaker AI work really hard.
Speaker AI'm trying to do all the right things.
Speaker AA lot of times it leads to a level of discontentment.
Speaker AThey feel like their priorities aren't aligned with God's.
Speaker AIf we don't manage our resources wisely, if we're not good stewards of those things, guess what happens.
Speaker AJust like the Bible verse says, no matter how much money you make, you earn all those wages, you put them with a purse at holes in it.
Speaker AI get this picture, that in your own mind, you fill this purse, you fill this bag.
Speaker ALet's call it a bag for sake of a better term.
Speaker AYou fill this bag with all your coins.
Speaker AIt's heavy.
Speaker AYou pick it up, and as you notice, you're walking across the room and things are just dripping out of it.
Speaker AWell, think about how that ties directly into your spending.
Speaker AWell, the main chief things that people talk to me all the time, they say, rob, I just don't understand where my money goes.
Speaker AIt's true.
Speaker ABut here's the thing.
Speaker AThe reason people don't understand where their money goes is because they haven't found where their leaks are.
Speaker AAnd that's really the whole point of today's show.
Speaker AI want to talk about how to find those leaks.
Speaker AFor so many people.
Speaker AIt's things like forgotten subscriptions.
Speaker AYou have these subscriptions.
Speaker AYou sign up for Netflix, you sign up for Spotify.
Speaker AHey, maybe you sign up for the gym and you Just never get there.
Speaker AThose forgotten subscriptions just add up.
Speaker ABecause, listen, it's like set it and forget.
Speaker AIt just gets charged to your account every month.
Speaker AYou just forget about it.
Speaker AI forgot I was even paying for that.
Speaker AI haven't used that in months.
Speaker AHey, listen, I'm right there with you.
Speaker AThere's one particular one that just keeps on renewing every year.
Speaker AAnd I finally said to myself, you know, I'm just gonna.
Speaker AI'm gonna cancel it right now, even though I just paid for another 12 months.
Speaker AFor a lot of people, it's so small.
Speaker ADaily habits, things like that.
Speaker ACoffee stop.
Speaker AAnd, you know, if you listen to my show, you probably say, ralph, you're always picking on coffee spots.
Speaker AWhat's a leak?
Speaker AHow about those gas station stacks?
Speaker AI'm just gonna run in here, grab something really quick.
Speaker AOr maybe it's just convenience fees in general.
Speaker AYou know, a lot of people don't understand when they go to the ATM machine.
Speaker AI'm gonna go get 20 bucks.
Speaker AHow much are you paying for that?
Speaker AHow much is your bank charging for that?
Speaker AHow much is the ATM itself charging you for that?
Speaker ANot to mention it.
Speaker AImpulse purchases that you usually buy with that cash, you might be saying, ralph, those are just little things, dude.
Speaker AThey're just little odds and ends.
Speaker AAnd yes, they're individually, they're small, but when you add them all together, they become huge things.
Speaker AThey become really big things.
Speaker AWhat does the Bible tell us about this?
Speaker AStewardship means plugging those leaks.
Speaker AStewardship means taking that purse and finding out where the money's leaking into.
Speaker AIf you really want to conquer your financial situation, if you really want to get ahead, start saving, pay off debt, all that kind of thing, the main thing you've got to do is start plugging those leaks.
Speaker ANow, you may be saying, ralph, okay, great.
Speaker AI get it.
Speaker AI've got the purse with the holes in it.
Speaker AI'm doing all the things you're talking about.
Speaker AHow do I get past that, Ralph?
Speaker AHow do I make an impact?
Speaker AThe first thing I want to tell you to do is go look at your bank statement.
Speaker AGo in there and look at every single transaction.
Speaker AWhere are you spending your money?
Speaker AYou might find those unused subscriptions there.
Speaker AYou might find things.
Speaker AI didn't realize I was charged this overdraft fee.
Speaker ASo many people don't realize the bank fees they're paying because maybe they could have a minimum balance.
Speaker AThey wouldn't get charged a fee at all.
Speaker ASo audit your bank statements.
Speaker AAudit your credit card statements.
Speaker AA lot of people don't even look at their credit card statements.
Speaker AThey don't read the credit card statement.
Speaker AI think this is one of the things.
Speaker AIf you want to be financially prudent, if you want to be a good steward of your resource, one of the main things you've got to start doing is looking at that credit card statement.
Speaker ARead that thing from beginning to end.
Speaker AI don't know how many times I've worked, and this is a lot of times I work with a business client.
Speaker AWe're putting their books together at year end to do their taxes.
Speaker AAnd I'll say to them, do you realize you were charged all these fees, Ralph, I have no idea what you're talking about.
Speaker AWell, they had fraud on their account and collectively they were little odds and ends, but they weren't looking at it.
Speaker AThat's a good place to find those unused subscriptions.
Speaker AAlso look at your credit card statements.
Speaker AIt's a great time to set up alerts or, or set up a budget.
Speaker AWe talk about budgets on the show all the time.
Speaker AOr what I called the other day an intentional spending plan.
Speaker ABecause those alerts, when you see that come through, one of the best things I've ever seen somebody do is they set up an alert whenever any.
Speaker AAnything hits their account, they get an alert.
Speaker ABecause guess what?
Speaker AThey're going to see it.
Speaker AThey're going to see it and they're going to do something about it.
Speaker AWe need to realign our priorities.
Speaker AWe need to realign our thinking.
Speaker AWe need to realign our mindset.
Speaker AWe need to be good stewards of money.
Speaker ABecause here's a simple truth, and I want you to hear this because this is my hug to you today.
Speaker AI mean, I want to share love with you today.
Speaker AGod doesn't want you working hard only to feel empty.
Speaker AGod doesn't want you to have that purse with the holes in it.
Speaker AThat's why I put it in the scripture.
Speaker AHe's trying to point out something.
Speaker AHe's trying to show you something.
Speaker AHe's trying to show you a way to get past that.
Speaker AGod wants you to experience peace and he wants you to experience provision.
Speaker ASo here's my one action step for today, this week or today.
Speaker AI just want you to ask God to just pray.
Speaker AJust pray about this.
Speaker ASay, God, show me the leaks in my spending.
Speaker ALord, help me to have the energy and determination to go look at that bank statement like Ralph said, to go look at those credit card statements and really examine where my money's going.
Speaker AStart to track where my money's going.
Speaker ABecause you could just take one step this week to patch some of those items.
Speaker AI'm going to tell you right now, it will be an amazing shift in your complete financial situation.
Speaker AHow about we pray together?
Speaker AFather God, we come to you right now and we know we're broken people, Lord.
Speaker AWe know in so many ways that we aren't good stewards of the resources you've given us, Lord.
Speaker AAnd we need your help right now.
Speaker AWe need your help today to help us plug up some of these leaks.
Speaker ALord.
Speaker AShe show us where we have these shortcomings, Lord, and give us the courage, the strength, the determination to actually do something about it.
Speaker ALord, we know that you want us to experience peace.
Speaker AWe know that you want us to experience provision, Lord.
Speaker ASo I ask that you would help me to do that today.
Speaker AAnd I asked this in complete confidence, knowing that you will do it for us, Lord, in Jesus name we pray.
Speaker AAmen.
Speaker AListen, as I said, God doesn't want you working hard only to feel empty.
Speaker AGod wants you to feel the abundance of everything he's given you.
Speaker AHe's given you all these things.
Speaker AHe just wants you to steward them wisely.
Speaker AAnd here's something I'd like to give you.
Speaker AI'd love to give you a copy of my new book.
