Speaker A

Hey, for a lot of people, tax season means panic. I'm talking about stacks of papers, unanswered questions, and this quiet sense of dread. Then deadlines, creeping closer, emails you don't want to open and numbers you hope won't surprise you. And before you even start, stress shows up. But, friend, taxes don't have to feel like this. With the right preparation, you can file calmly, clearly and with peace. So let's turn panic into a plan today. Here's the question we're answering today. How can you survive tax season without stress in 2026?And here's my promise for you. By the end of the episode, you're going to know why preparation changes everything.I'm going to give you a few decisions that remove most of the pressure. And I'm going to tell you how to approach taxes with confidence instead of fear. Today's not about panic. It's certainly not about scrambling. It's just about steady progress, Vision. Hey, friend. Ralph Estep Jr. Here.Welcome to Financially Confident Christian, where we learn how to walk through life and money with wisdom, with peace, and with a heart anchored in God's truth. My mission on this show is to help you break the cycle of financial shame and build those steady habits rooted in faith and truly become a financially confident Christian. And I'm really glad you're here today. Now, yesterday we wrapped up our Love and Money series talking about unity and God's design. If you missed any of it, you go back and check it out. Today we're shifting gears and we're getting into tax season survival. You're thinking, wait a minute, we just completely turned around. But here's the problem. Taxes are a part of life, but they don't have to steal your piece. And with this simple step by step approach, I'm going to break down the overwhelm today. So let's make this season calm and let's make this season clear. Because I do taxes every day. Here's a question I hear every year.Sometimes people joke about it, sometimes said anxiously, Raoul, why did taxes stress me out so much? Or maybe they say this one. Where do I even start? Both valid questions. Because confusion creates fear and clarity creates confidence. That's what we're really going to get to today. So if tax season makes you feel behind, you're not irresponsible. Guess what? You're just human.Because paperwork feels like a mountain to so many people. And maybe you procrastinated and now you feel guilty like April 15th is coming. Dude, I got to get this done. And Taxes are complex and the language they use is confusing. It's not confusing to me because this is what I do. But nobody's ever taught you a simple system. See, stress doesn't mean you're bad with money. It means you just need a plan. Here's something important I want you to hear. Most tax stress comes from delay. That's really what it comes down to. It's not about difficulty. Most people's tax returns are actually pretty straightforward. It's just a delay. It's when those documents pile up, when those questions they had all year long get unanswered. And then that deadline feels rushed. And when you feel rushed, unanswered, pile up, guess what happens? Your anxiety grows. But preparation can help shrink that fear. Yes, if you're prepared, you're going to fear less. And listen, you don't have to know everything. I don't expect you to be a tax expert. That's what I am. You just have to start. So let's trade that dread for steps.Because I've helped thousands of people walk through tax season. Yes, thousands. I've been doing this for 30 years. I don't have to do the math, but I bet you I've done 10,000 tax returns.I've worked with first time filers. I've worked with families. I work with side hustlers, business owners. And here's the thing I've seen time and time again, the commas.Filers aren't the smartest filers, but what they are, are the most prepared. And see, preparation is a skill you can build. You don't have to go become a tax expert, but you can be prepared.Let me show you how simple this can be. I work with people that wait till the last minute. And if you wait to the last minute, everything feels urgent. And they weren't just missing any major forms, they just delayed. So what do we do? I said next year. Here's what I want you to do. I want you to get everything together early. Same income, same forms. And they had a completely different experience. And why? Because peace came from starting sooner, not knowing more. Peace didn't come from knowing more.It came from being prepared and starting sooner. So here's today's central question. Are you letting tax season happen to you or are you preparing for it on purpose? Are you, Are you prepared for it right now? Because that answer determines how tax season really feels. Let's walk through this step by step. Now, it's going to be slow, not overwhelming, just steady. I'm going to give you A simple stress reducing plan that works for almost everyone. Yes, you heard me right. This is the foundation of comm. Filing.First thing I want you to do, collect your documents. Don't analyze anything yet. Just find those common items.Your W2 1099 forms, your bank interest forms, investment statements, your mortgage interest, and any student loan interest. You don't need to organize it. Don't get in this perfection trap. You don't need to understand every form. Just collect them, put them in one place.I'm a big believer. And put them with an envelope with 20, 25 or any write and write on it. Because that early gathering turns unknowns into knowns. And knowing things makes it feel more manageable. See, even if you don't file right away, having everything in one place removes a huge mental burden because, okay, here's what I got to do.When you sit down and do it, or maybe you bring it to somebody else, you're like, ralph, here's my floor. I love when people come in, they say, ralph, here's my stuff. And that decision alone removes a lot of stress. Now there's two solid options here. There's do it yourself software or professional help. Somebody like me. It's not about some spiritual scorecard here. Choose what fits your situation. Software may work if your income is straightforward. If your return's pretty straightforward, that's fine. Most of the time, software can work. Just pay attention to what it's asking you. Now, if your situation is a little more complicated, maybe you've got some side income, maybe you have a business or you got some business expensive. Maybe have a major life changes like you got married or you had a child or you adopted a child.Or if you have those lingering questions, it might make sense to pay a pro to help you. Because that confidence matters more than the cost. A lot of people say, oh Rob, you're expensive. I'm like, yeah, but think about the confidence.I have clients every year that come into me. They could do their returns themselves. They could go on to the do it yourself software and pay a small amount of money. But you know what they say to me all the time, Ralph, I don't have to worry about it. They have that peace and that protection is real value. For me, Frank, confidence matters more than cost. And early filing isn't rushing. It's margin. It's margin to review and make sure you've got everything in order. It's margin to ask those questions. It's margin to fix the mistakes. And I love this part of margin. If you owe it Gives you time to plan. How am I going to pay for this? And if you do a refund, hey, you get the money sooner. And money sooner is always better. And filing early can also reduce your fraud risk.Being prepared doesn't mean it's going to be perfect. It means that you are prepared. And remember this. Taxes aren't a moral test. They just aren't. They're not some moral test of what you're going to do.Taxes are an administrative responsibility. It's what I call a yearly rhythm. You gather, you decide, and then you file and see. When it's a rhythm, it loses that intimidation power. And that preparation turns chaos into process. And process creates peace. Let's get to our Bible verse today comes to us From Romans chapter 13, verse 7. Give to everyone what you owe them.If you owe taxes, pay taxes. If revenue, then revenue. If respect, then respect. And if honor, then honor. See, friend, Scripture frames taxes as responsibility. And that's what we need to look at it. Handled with integrity and handled with wisdom. God never frames taxes as fear, did he? He frames it as integrity and order. This is one more place where you can walk steady in your faith. And peace comes when you face it. You don't avoid it. Taxes don't have to scare you. They can be held steadily. So here's your simple step for today.I want you to create one tax folder. It can be physical, digital, or both. Maybe you like it all and just label it 2025 taxes and put every single tax related document in there. No sorting, no pressure, just one place. It's a parking spot. That single step reduces more anxiety than you might expect. Well, let's pray together. Lord, thank you for clarity in finances.Help us approach tax season with wisdom instead of worry. Give us peace in preparation, confidence in filing, and integrity in every single step. And we ask this in Jesus name. Amen, friend. If tax season feels overwhelming to you, you don't have to navigate it alone. We build a community. It's a place where practical guidance meets grace. It's not about judgment and it's not about financial shame. And I would love it if you would check it out. You can join us at financiallyconfidentchristian.com/join again. That's financiallyconfidentchristian.com/join because you're supported here, friend.Preparation changes everything. Taxes don't have to control your emotions anymore. With small steady steps, this season can feel calm. You're not late, you're not behind. You're just getting started now. Tomorrow we're going to go even deeper. And I'm going to talk about the top five mistakes people make at tax time, but bigger than that, how you can avoid them. And if today's episode helped, you share what somebody else stressed about taxes. They say death and taxes. You know, a lot of people that got a file share the show with them because this show isn't about financial shame. It's about walking in wisdom, staying steady, and truly becoming a financially confident Christian.God bless you, friend, and join us again tomorrow as we talk about taxes again.
