Speaker A

Hey, for a long time, one paycheck felt normal, didn't it? Just one job, one employer, just one source of income I can still think about. My grandfather had that job with the dupont company, and he had it for his almost his entire life. And maybe that worked for a season. But now you're thinking, ralph, that feels really risky, friend, if you've ever thought, if this job disappeared, I really don't know what I do. That's not you being dramatic. You're actually paying attention. And paying attention is a good thing. And I just want to say it gently. You're not crazy for feeling this. You're living in a world that's changed. So here's the question we're answering today. Why isn't one job enough anymore? And by the end of this episode, you're going to walk away with a common explanation for why one income feels so fragile. I'm going to give you a simple way to think about multiple streams without overwhelm. And.And one small step you can take today to start building stability. And we're going to do it without panic. We're going to do it without pressure. And most of all, we're going to do it without fear. You're going to be okay, friend. Let's talk. Hey, friend. Ralph Estep Jr. Here. Welcome to Financially Confident Christian. We learn how to walk through life and money with wisdom, with peace, and with a heart anchored in God's truth. My mission is to help you break that cycle of financial shame and build steady habits rooted in faith, and become financially confident Christians.I'm really glad you're here today. Yesterday, we talked about growing your income without burning out. We talked about scaling with wisdom and not pressure. And today's show builds right on top of that. Because one of the wisest ways to grow isn't always working harder. Sometimes it's simply making sure everything doesn't depend on just one paycheck. And it's not because you don't trust God, but because you've learned to steward the life he's given you. And here's something I hear all the time, Ralph. Is it wrong that one paycheck doesn't feel safe anymore? Or maybe you're thinking this.Am I being faithless for wanting a backup plan? And let me say this clearly, friend. Wanting stability isn't a lack of faith. It's actually a human response to a very uncertain world. And we're certainly living in an uncertain world, aren't we? So if you felt anxious about layoffs, if you watch prices rise While your paycheck stayed the same.If you've had that quiet thought, I'm just one emergency away from a real mess. You're not weak, you're not ungrateful, and you're not bad at trusting God.You're just feeling what it's like to carry adult responsibilities in a time when the ground feels shakier. And, friend, today you deserve a plan that helps you breathe again. Because here's the reality. One income stream is one point of failure. We talk about systems we try to build. Systems have multiple points, so you don't have one point of failure. And if everything depends on just one job, then any disruption at all feels catastrophic. A layoff, maybe a health issue, a business slowdown or a company change. It's not that the job is bad. It's that the system itself is fragile. And when your system is fragile, your nervous system never relaxes. You're always tensed up. And that's why this feels heavy. Not because you're being dramatic. It's because your body knows this matters. And see, I've walked with families through job losses. I've seen what happens when a paycheck disappears overnight. And I've also seen the piece that shows up when income isn't coming from only one place.Even a small second stream can change the way you sleep at night. And I'll never forget I talked with somebody once who said, I love my job, Ralph, but I can't sleep at night. And this person wasn't greedy. They weren't trying to get rich. They were just scared because everything depended on one check. So they didn't do anything dramatic, didn't quit their job. They didn't start a new company overnight. They added just one small system. Something simple, something steady. And I'll never forget, six months later, they told me that extra income didn't replace my job, Ralph. But one thing it did replace. It replaced my fear. See, friend, that's what we're after today. It's not about hustle. Today. It's about peace. So here's the real question today. How do you build stability in an uncertain world? Now, we could probably take an hour to talk about that. But, friend, I'm going to tell you right now, the answer isn't panic. It's preparation. It's quiet preparation. It's faithful preparation. It's the kind that says, I'm trusting God and I'm going to steward wisely. And, friend, I want to give you a simple way to think about this, because this topic itself can feel overwhelming. Here's the big idea. Multiple income streams aren't greed. They're about resilience.I've had a lot of people say, well Rob, you're just talking about how to build more income and get greedy and greedy. That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about building resilience. It's kind of like a stool. If your stool has one leg, guess what's going to happen. It's going to fail. Add a second leg and suddenly there's a balance. Add a third leg and hey, now you've got stability. So let's make this practical. There are basically two kinds of income. There's active income and there's building income. Let's talk about that active income. This is what you trade your time for.Your job, your overtime, those side gigs you're doing. It's the income you earn because you showed up. You're just getting paid to show up. But then there's also building income. This is income you build slowly, like a small business. Maybe it's a service you offer, a product you're selling. Investments are a great example of this.Maybe it's a rental property or even a skill that's become valuable. Now these things don't happen overnight. That's the whole point of why we say it's building. But they build up over time. And friend, here's the best part. I want you to breathe this in. You don't need eight streams. You just need one small second stream that reduces that fear. And then you build it gradually. Not because you're acting frantically, because you're wise. So what could it look like in real life?Maybe for you, it's a job plus a Saturday service you can do twice a month just to add a little bit extra to the margin. Maybe it's a job plus a skill that you can offer on the side. We talked about these. Bookkeeping. Maybe you're good with that.Tutoring, maybe some handiwork. Hey, maybe you like to bake. Or maybe child care. Maybe it's a job plus a long term plan to invest consistently, even small amounts. We've talked about that on the show. That 5, 10, $20 a month. And friend, I'm not asking you to become an entrepreneur. I'm just asking you to become prepared.Because preparedness feels like peace. Which leads me to today's scripture verse. It comes to us From Ecclesiastes chapter 11, verse 2. Invest in seven ventures. Yes, in eight. For you do not know what disaster may come upon the land. Now friend, you might Think about that and say, well, that's fear, but that's not fear. That's wisdom.See, Scripture saying this, you don't control the whole world, so plan with humility. And I love that because it leaves room for trust and stewardship together. It's not about panic. It's not about denial. It's about faith with wisdom. So here's your simple step for today. I want you to grab a piece of paper, and on that paper I want you to write this heading, my second stream. And then I want you to answer two questions, just two very basic questions. What skill do I already have that could create income? That's your first question. What's one skill that I already have that I could create income with? Second question. What problem could I solve for someone once a week or twice a month?Again, what problem could I solve for someone once a week or twice a month? That's it. No pressure to start today. Just clarity. And if you want to take one more tiny step, circle one of those ideas that feels doable and write this one sentence. This week, I will explore whatever that is. Now I'm saying explore. I'm not telling you to go conquer it. I'm not trying to tell you to go build it.Just explore it. That can make a huge impact on your life. Lord, thank you for providing for us. We see the uncertainty and the pressure we feel. You see the bills, you see the responsibilities. Give my friend wisdom and not panic. Give them creativity and steady courage.Help them take one small step towards stability while keeping their heart anchored deeply in you. And we ask this in Jesus name, Amen, friend. If this topic hit home today, if you want to know, you don't have to figure it all out alone.Come join us at our community at financiallyconfidentchristian.com/join. That's financiallyconfidentchristian.com/join. And it's what people tell me about the community. They say they feel safe there, like they finally have a place to talk about money without being judged, without being shamed, and honestly without feeling behind. It's just real people with real struggles experiencing real grace and steady steps forward. And friend, you belong there. And let me leave you with this Today. God is your provider, but wisdom helps you steward how provision flows. You don't need to panic, you don't need to rush. You just need one wise next step. And friend, you're going to be okay. Tomorrow we're going to talk about this idea from a deeper faith angle. We're going to really get into the nitty gritty of this. And I'm going to pose this question. Who really provides your income? It's going to get deep tomorrow. And if today helped you, I want to encourage you to share with somebody who's been quietly scared about money. There are so many people out there scared about money. Just share the show with them. Because this show isn't about financial shame. It's about learning to walk in wisdom, staying anchored in Christ, and truly becoming a financially confident Christian. God bless you, friend, and make sure you come and join me tomorrow on the show.
